Who is IA&B?

IA&B is three state associations committed to advancing the value of independent agents.  These associations are working together to build a strong tradition of service and loyalty to members; advocating, on both the state and federal level, to protect the interests of the members; and dedicated to providing products, services, education and information driven by member needs.   

Who can become a member of IA&B?

Agencies having one or more direct appointment(s) with a company subscribing to the American Agency System are eligible for membership. IA&B subscribes to the definition of American Agency System whereby the agent owns the records and expirations of the policies issued through them and is able to represent more than one company.

Interested in starting an independent agency? IA&B has developed “ABC's for New Agencies", a toolkit that covers the essentials of starting an independent insurance agency. This resource explains the American Agency System and the different corporate structures available. It covers licensing, business plans, E&O insurance and various compliance components – like privacy, handling client money and procedure manuals.
