Computer Mediated Distance Learning Courses (CMDL)

CMDL Course Structure

Computer Mediated Distance Learning (CMDL) training courses are completed through a combination of self-study and CMDL instruction.  Following registration for any of the CMDL programs, participants will receive complete instruction on how to work in this type of training environment.

Course Materials

Supplemental Course materials are included in the CMDL course registration fee and will be shipped to each registrant once full payment is received.  These materials are shipped directly from the publisher.

Computer Requirements

Participants will need access to the Internet and 4.0 or better Web Browser.  If participants do not have a 4.0, they will need to download a free browser upgrade.

Course Format

Each CMDL seminar follows the same basic format:

  • Orientation covers the basics of how to navigate inside the network.  New users will need send some practice messages to the CMDL coordinator and read a little about how the class will work.  For those who are familiar with computers, this process may take as little as 15 minutes.  For participants who are not familiar with computers, it may take up tup 3 hours.  Everyone must sign in at some point during the orientation period.
  • Weekly exercises will be posted by the instructor.  The schedule is provided in advance to students so they can sign in during that time of day if they wish.  This allows full group discussion to take place with feedback from the instructor.  At this time, students may also ask private questions as well.  Group discussion involves everyone taking the class and signed on at that particular time.
  • If students have questions for the instructor, they can send e-mail to the instructor at any time and their questions will be answered privately.  Each student receives their own mailbox during orientation so they can communicate with the instructor.

Time Commitment

The CMDL seminars require 3-5  hours of total course time each week.  You can log on at anytime of day or night.  This time includes textbook reading, homework, online discussion and other activities related to the course.  How much time you spend logged in each week is not tracked but it is recommended that each participant log in at least three times per week.

Supervisor Reports Available

For students participating in CMDL programs, supervisor reports, reflecting the status of all student work are posted on the course login screen by each Wednesday.  Complete login directions are forwarded with your course materials.  Supervisors must have contact with their student to obtain the ID code which is assigned by the instructor during the first week of each course.
