REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (June 15, 2011) – Nearly 220 independent agents, CSRs and company personnel gathered in Rehoboth Beach, Del., June 8-9 for the Delaware Association of Insurance Agents & Brokers’ 54th annual convention. The event included an executive-management education track, CE courses, social outings, an awards luncheon and a trade show.

“The convention was a success,” said Diana Hornung Hanby, chairwoman of the DAIAB. “It has become a staple gathering for who’s who in the Delaware insurance world and draws a loyal crowd.”

Attendees mix business with pleasure
The event kicked off on Wednesday with social outings. DAIAB members and company representatives mingled on the Kings Creek Country Club greens, a local kayaking eco-tour and a Lewes day trip. That evening they took part in a Nassau Valley Vineyards reception.

On Thursday, attendees chose one of two educational tracks: The first, geared to agency executive management, offered social media strategies; the second included CE-approved courses taught by Bettye Buffington and Jerry Milton.

Association recognizes local industry leaders, youth
Thursday also featured an awards luncheon, where several attendees were lauded for their contributions to the association and the Delaware insurance community. David Krenkel, of Donegal Insurance Group, won the William H. Lenhert Jr. Award for forging strong agency-company relationships. John Yasik, of Poland & Sullivan Insurance Inc. in Newark, received the Wharton-Ranalli Leadership Award for his work to better the association and industry.

In addition, DAIAB awarded two recent high school graduates – Anthony Johnston and Alexandra Schwartz, both of Seaford, Del. – with $1,500 Joann Scott Memorial Scholarships.

Save the date
DAIAB will host its 55th annual convention June 6-7, 2012 at the Atlantic Sands in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
