Nov. 1, 2011 – The Delaware Association of Insurance Agents & Brokers (DAIAB) today informed the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) that it will cease its affiliation as of Jan. 1, 2012.

DAIAB Chairwoman Diana M. Hornung Hanby, ACSR, stated in a letter to PIA that, considering the many challenges faced by independent agents, the action is in the members' best interest. She emphasized that the board of directors was unanimous in its decision and that DAIAB will remain affiliated with the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America.

"This was a tough decision," stressed Hanby, "but the board feels that it is the most responsible course of action in fulfilling our fiduciary responsibilities." Hanby noted that since consolidating two state associations to form DAIAB in 2007, the organization has sought actively to have a single national trade association that could focus on better serving the needs of independent insurance agents. "Seeing no movement toward forming a unified trade group at the national level was a source of great frustration," added Hanby.

Members of DAIAB also were informed of the board's decision by letter. Included in the mailing was additional information explaining the action.
