Nov. 1, 2011 – The Insurance Agents & Brokers of Pennsylvania Inc. (IA&B of Pa.) today informed the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) that it will no longer be affiliated, effective Jan. 1, 2012.
In a letter to PIA, IA&B of Pa. Chairman G. Greg Gunn, CIC, stated that the board of directors was unanimous in deciding that the action is in the members' best interest in light of the many challenges they face as independent agents. IA&B of Pa. will remain affiliated with the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America.
Members of IA&B of Pa. also were informed by letter, which included additional information explaining the action.
Gunn emphasized that the decision was not easy, but prudent in fulfilling the board's fiduciary obligations. Added Gunn, "Since the consolidation of our state associations in 2003, we have openly espoused the need for independent agents to have a single national trade association focusing on addressing needs and challenges." Gunn expressed his disappointment that no progress has been made on the national level to consolidate trade groups to better serve all professional independent insurance agents.
