REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (June 7, 2012) – Candidates for Delaware insurance commissioner today faced off in front of the independent insurance agent community. The Delaware Association of Insurance Agents & Brokers hosted Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart and fellow Democratic candidates Mitch Crane and Dennis Spivack for a question-and-answer session.
"What a great opportunity this was for us, as representatives of Delaware's insurance consumers, to interact with the candidates for state insurance regulator," said Diana Hornung Hanby, chairwoman of DAIAB. "And it's safe to say that the candidates took something away too through better understanding the issues important to us and our clients."
The candidates answered questions on a range of topics, including the disproportionately low number of insurance companies writing in the state compared to others, commoditization of insurance, the role of independent agents in the insurance transaction, credit scoring and workers' compensation reform.
The insurance commissioner post is an elected position held for four years. Delawareans will determine their next commissioner in the Sept. 11 primary and Nov. 6 general elections.
