ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Producers who sell long-term care insurance in Maryland must fulfill a new training requirement by Sept. 10, 2008. For newly licensed producers wishing to sell long-term care insurance and those adding the line of authority, the requirement is effective immediately.

The new training requirement, which is separate from the continuing education requirement already in place, requires producers to complete a one-time, eight-hour course. The Maryland Insurance Administration adopted the regulation on Sept. 10, 2007.

Insurance Agents & Brokers of Maryland will now offer four two-hour, Web-based training programs for producers to meet this requirement.

“The programs can be taken at any time and at whatever pace the producer chooses,” said Dave Rosenkilde, chairman of IA&B of Maryland. “They’re designed to simplify meeting the training requirement for already busy producers.”

Each segment of the program has also been approved for two long-term care continuing education credits for a total of eight credits.

The programs are open to IA&B members and nonmembers alike. To register, visit http://www.iabgroup.com/ or call (800) 998-9644, option 0.
